Alicia Silverstone is officially stepping back into her iconic role as Cher Horowitz in a brand-new TV sequel to the beloved 1995 teen comedy Clueless.
Now 48, Silverstone will not only star in the series but also serve as an executive producer, shaping the creative direction of the show.
Streaming on Peacock with Gossip Girl Creators at the Helm
The sequel series will stream on Peacock, and it’s being developed by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, the creative minds behind Gossip Girl and The OC.
Amy Heckerling, who wrote and directed the original Clueless film, will also return to executive produce the project, adding continuity and authenticity to the rebooted storyline.
From Cult Classic to Franchise
Originally released in 1995, Clueless became a sleeper box office hit and an enduring pop culture phenomenon. Loosely based on Jane Austen’s Emma, the film followed Cher, a fashionable and well-meaning Los Angeles teen who meddles in the love lives of those around her.
The movie also featured Paul Rudd and Brittany Murphy, and later inspired a short-lived TV series (which did not feature Silverstone) and a West End stage musical that debuted earlier this year.
Silverstone’s Nostalgic Return
In a 2024 interview, Silverstone reflected on the possibility of a sequel, saying:
“I think people are talking about a [sequel] all the time at all times since the movie happened. It’s so lovely to see how people still love that movie. It’s very nice.”
She previously stepped back into Cher’s plaid blazer for a 2023 Super Bowl commercial for Rakuten, which rekindled fan excitement for her return.
Silverstone’s Busy Schedule
Following Clueless, Silverstone starred in Batman & Robin, Blast from the Past, and more recently in acclaimed films like Reptile, The Lodge, and The Killing of a Sacred Deer with director Yorgos Lanthimos.
She’s also set to appear in Lanthimos’s upcoming film Bugonia alongside Emma Stone, and she will lead a holiday rom-com for Netflix opposite Oliver Hudson.
Direction of New Series Still Under Wraps
While the announcement confirms Silverstone’s involvement, plot details for the new Clueless series remain undisclosed.

A previously planned mystery-themed reboot in 2020 was shelved, but this new version signals a more direct continuation of Cher’s story—three decades later.
